Let's Begin

I am hoping that this will become a site for Reading Specialists from Alaska to share their victories, their challenges, good research they have found, etc. and keep in touch with each other. We shouldn't be isolated. We should be united and working together for the best reading and writing instruction for Alaska's K-12 students.

What is happening in your district?

  1. Thank you for starting this MaryClaire. I hope we can all join forces. I just signed up to look at research for the upcoming Language Arts Curriculum review. A book that I heard quoted 2 times during the ASLA conference is Richard Allington's What Really Matters with Response to Intervention. We did a book study on that book last year and it's fabulous. I know I mentioned it at our meeting but if someone didn't get it here it is again.
I also looked on the Heinemann site and found the book that Sue was talking about. RTI from all Sides by Mary Howard. There is a podcast that is about 47 min. long and is fabulous.

  4. hi maryclaire,
this is my first blog. i am glad to see it. i feel like i am slowly drifting into a teaching rut and need some uplift to get my passion going strong. I am already wanting to read the material mentioned in ronda's entry.

  5. If you know of other people who are reading specialists or just particularly interested in reading instruction, send me their email address and I will add them as an author. There is a limit of 100 authors, but if we reach our limit, we'll figure out something else!!
